On Wednesday, Sept. 27, a judge sentenced Kyrie Rashaud Thompson, 29, to 30 years in prison after terrorizing his 3-year-old child and the child's mother during a trip from Hell that played out in September 2019.
It began on Sept. 22, 2019, when the mother of his child drove to his former DC home to drop off their 3-year-old child for a prearranged visit, prosecutors say.
However, Thompson had more nefarious intentions in mind.
Instead of retrieving their child, Thompson got into the front seat and ordered the woman to drive to Bald Eagle Drive in Laurel, Maryland, and when she refused, he became threatening and angry, prompting her to start driving across state lines, stopping in a parking lot in Forest Heights.
Things got worse from there when her boyfriend called, Thompson answered, and advised that she was going to perform a sexual act on him.
After that, he started choking her around the neck, pulled her head toward the passenger side floorboard, pinning her in a manner that she could not breathe, officials said.
While the assault was ongoing, the 3-year-old child was in the backseat of their vehicle crying and calling for it to stop.
They then ended up driving to Bald Eagle Drive, near the entrance of the Oxon Hill Children's Farm in Prince George's County at which point Thompson pulled out his phone, and ordered his victim to perform the sexual act on him while he filmed it, according to court documents.
When she refused, he again choked her and forced her to continue, and in a recording, the child could be heard crying and telling him to stop.
Once he was finished, the woman drove the fractured family back to DC, where Thompson took the child and threatened her not to call the police, "or something would happen."
Thompson was indicted and charged by a grand jury in Maryland with kidnapping in December 2019, though he then again compounded his legal issues and ran afoul of the law.
Officials said that in August 2020, Thompson sent the mother of his child a letter, where he attempted to coerce her into lying about the events of the fateful day.
"I talked to my lawyer and they told me they talked to you," he wrote. "Only thing is you have to change the facts (victim’s name). You gotta say I didn't kidnap you. You gotta say nothing happened until we were already in (Maryland).
"They told me they know you probably think if you don’t go to court it’ll go away like before but its different with federal cases. You gotta call back and say I didn’t kidnap you," he continued.
"Please . . . . Tell them I didn’t force you to go to (Maryland) . . . Please call and say I didn’t kidnap you and you willing to tell a jury or judge that at court as well.”
She did not listen to his order.
Following his prison term, Thompson was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release for the kidnapping and witness tampering.
